Good nutrition is vital during your pregnancy. We have provided some tips/suggestions on making some good food choices which will help you have a successful and healthy pregnancy.
Nutrition
Be very conscious in your food choices, making sure to include fruit and vegetables and high protein foods and eating three meals a day. Make sure the food you eat for you and your baby is of high quality and nutritious. It is important not to over eat, and stay away from junk foods which are generally unhealthy and will add unwanted pregnancy pounds.
Incorporate:
Whole grains
Fruits and vegetables
Dark Green Leafy Vegetables (great source of iron)
These foods will not only provide your body and your baby with required vitamins, calories and proteins, but also help with various aspects of our health. Dark green leafy vegetables are good sources of iron which will prevent a pregnant woman from suffering from iron deficiency. Whole grains, fruits and vegetables are also rich in edible fibers which are ideal for the health of the digestive system. With proper nutrition you will also reduce the chances of constipation.
Prevent dehydration:
Having a healthy pregnancy requires that you prevent dehydration. Drink at least eight to ten glasses of water every day. A dehydrated body can cause early labor and other pregnancy complications. Pregnancy requires extra water intake as by the time you are thirty four weeks pregnant your blood volume will have increased by forty percent.
Keep your Prenatal Appointments
Having a healthy pregnancy requires early prenatal care. As soon as you find out you are pregnant, it is important to go see your OB/GYN or midwife. Also, be sure to keep your prenatal care appointments throughout your pregnancy. It is vital to monitor your health and the development of your baby while monitoring your personal health as well.
Supplements
Prenatal vitamins are recommended throughout your pregnancy. If you take other supplements, be sure to consult your doctor prior to continuing their use. Although supplements are believed to supply vitamins and nutrients in the form of tablets, it is not recommended to turn to them during pregnancy. With a well prepared diet, you can get sufficient nutrients without any additional supplements. However, ask your doctor to make sure before taking any of them because some of the supplements that are available might have side effects.
Exercise
Healthy pregnancy requires that you adjust your body to all the necessary changes that are needed to grow a healthy baby. Exercise will help increase your body stamina. If your are not used to exercising, then start doing a little bit of walking even if it is for 10 minutes everyday. If you exercise regularly continue your exercise program as long as you do not become breathless. Shortness of breath reduces the oxygen supply to your baby and is not conducive to a healthy pregnancy. Rule of thumb: If you can carry a conversation while you exercise, you are on the right track. You do not want to overdo it by elevating your core temperature as this can harm your baby.
Healthy Mind, Healthy Baby
Pregnancy is much more than a physical process. Embracing pregnancy from the mind, body and spirit will enhance your possibility of having a healthy pregnancy and happy baby. Keep a positive attitude and try to keep from worrying and complaining.
Generally, the more educated you become about all the dynamics of pregnancy, the more likely you are to have a healthier pregnancy and a healthier baby. Eating well is always recommended, but be sure to discuss any changes you plan to make to your diet and exercise plans with a medical professional to be sure you do not have a high risk pregnancy.
